Children's Book Awards List and Free Printable Poster

National Children's Book Week begins May 5th. 
Our library will be celebrating with a display of award winning books. 

Here is a list and free printable chart of some notable children's book awards.

These awards span a variety of categories, from picture books to middle-grade and young adult works, and celebrate a range of literary styles, themes, and cultural contributions.
  1. Newbery Medal – Awarded annually by the American Library Association (ALA) for the most distinguished American children's book published the previous year.

  2. Caldecott Medal – Given by the ALA for the most distinguished American picture book for children.

  3. Coretta Scott King Book Award – Recognizes outstanding African American authors and illustrators of children's books.

  4. Schneider Family Book Award – Honors books that embody an artistic expression of the disability experience for children or adolescents.

  5. The Michael L. Printz Award – Given by the ALA for a book that exemplifies literary excellence in young adult literature.

  6. William C. Morris Award – Given by the ALA for a debut YA (Young Adult) book published in the previous year.

  7. Pura Belpré Award – Awarded to Latino/a authors and illustrators for their contributions to children's literature.

  8. Theodor Seuss Geisel Award – Recognizes the author(s) and illustrator(s) of the best book for beginning readers.

  9. Locus Award – Though primarily for science fiction and fantasy, this award includes categories for children’s books.

  10. Young Reader's Choice Award – The Pacific Northwest Library Association's award for books chosen by students in the Pacific Northwest.

  11. Blue Peter Book Award – A UK-based award for children's books, recognizing various categories including Best Story and Best Book with Facts.

  12. Kate Greenaway Medal – Presented by the UK’s Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals for an outstanding illustration in a children's book.

  13. Bologna Ragazzi Award – Presented at the Bologna Children's Book Fair, recognizing the best children's book from around the world.

  14. Carnegie Medal – Awarded by the UK’s Library Association for an outstanding children's book.

  15. Texas Bluebonnet Award – Awarded to the best children's book voted on by Texas schoolchildren, typically for books in the ages 9-12 range.
