Bulletin Boards

I've created dozens of bulletin boards over the years- some better than others. I made this list of tips to help you design a gorgeous, functional bulletin board!

1. Pick a Theme

Jot down a few ideas, or make a mood board on Pinterest. Basically brainstorm about what you'd like to have on your board. Some ideas: seasons, animals, biomes, or an upcoming holiday. Narrow it down to a visual theme.

For example I knew I wanted a "Back-to-School" Bulletin Board for August. I chose "Apples" as my theme.

2. Pick a color palette.

Use a generator like Coolors to make a color palette.

For my "Apples" board, I chose black, red, white, green, and brown.

3. Pick a cute quote or phrase

Pinterest is great for this! I chose "A is for Apple" as my quote

4. Make a mock-up

You use a program like Canva or Publisher, or draw it by hand.

5. Decide how you will make your letters, border, and images.

I usually do a mix of Cricut, Amazon purchases, and printed images.

For this board, I cut the letters and apples using my Cricut, I purchased the apple border on amazon, and the book covers are printed from our Library Website.

My final piece of advice is to keep it simple! I have definitely over-cluttered a bulletin board before. Sometimes less is more.
