Pumpkin Storytime Action Rhyme: A Fall Fingerplay
This is my favorite storytime action rhyme of all time! You can use printed pictures for each item or do the actions. I prefer to do the actions to let the little ones get the wiggles out.
*SLAP YOUR LEGS WHEN YOU SAY PUMPKIN*
Pumpkin Pumpkin Pumpkin BREAD
(hold hands like measuring a loaf of bread)
Pumpkin Pumpkin Pumpkin HEAD
(touch your head)
Pumpkin Pumpkin Pumpkin PIE
(put arms in a circle like encircling a pie)
Pumpkin Pumpkin Pumpkin EYE
(make loose fists over eyes)
Pumpkin Pumpkin Pumpkin CAKE
(hold one palm over the other like measuring a tall cake)
Pumpkin Pumpkin Pumpkin SHAKE
(shake your whole body)
*Now I usually end here, but during the week of Halloween, I add the final line:
Pumpkin Pumpkin Pumpkin STEW
(pretend to stir a big stew)
Pumpkin Pumpkin Pumpkin BOO!
(flick out fingers and yell BOO!!)
I hope you enjoy this fingerplay in the library, at home or in the classroom!
Happy Rhyming!
