Storytime Outline Lesson Plan: St. Patrick's Day

St. Patrick’s Day happens every year on March 17th. It started a long time ago in Ireland, and it is named after St. Patrick, who was a man that helped bring Christianity to Ireland. He lived about 1,500 years ago, and he is known for using a three-leaf clover, called a shamrock, to teach people about the Christian Holy Trinity – God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.

St. Patrick’s Day was first celebrated in Ireland in the 9th or 10th century. It became a holiday where people remembered St. Patrick and celebrated Irish culture. Over time, the holiday spread to other countries, especially when Irish people moved to places like the United States.

Today, people all over the world celebrate St. Patrick’s Day by wearing green, having parades, and enjoying Irish food and music. Many people also like to search for four-leaf clovers, which are lucky. The shamrock and the color green have become symbols of this fun holiday. It’s a day to celebrate Ireland’s history and the people who helped shape its story!
